August links continued
Need to bleach this rachelormont.com stuff off my front page. Who got Actors linkage?
I feel about Clare Coffey the way Chinatown girls feel about Crumps. Everything she writes is too-boring, too-late, including this impossible-to-follow screed about how the whiney, sweaty losers of her cohort who can’t get haircuts or do taxes are so interestingly dumb. Because fucking Vox and Mother Jones columns speak to the experiences of like, more than 10 people. She “currently resides in Idaho” and writes like Eve Peyser with a TBI.
Nico and Alan and Isaac and friends skated a bunch of Most Productive Crew spots really really well. I tattooed myself as I watched this so I missed some stuff.
I wish I could tell you I kept on with Tekken but I haven’t touched it in awhile. Looking for other beginners to spar (I guess) with. Down the line I’m going to grab another Xbox controller - I’ve run through two in the last two years. First the D-Pad goes, and then the sticks. Though I might just run my Switch Pro Controller for Tekken and my ailing Xbox controllers for Skater XL, as Skater XL requires analog triggers so I can turn well and properly emulate Aaron Herrington and Billy Trick. The Switch controller lacks analog triggers, even though the fucking Gamecube controller had ‘em. God.
Gaming is gonna circle the drain these next few years. You better get into something indie with a modding community or an incredibly popular game with seasons and all that. Everything else is going to disappear. Hitman 3 counts as indie.
COW BOY by Chase Walker is a good marker of the state of skate clips today. The graff-style logo has become the hardcore band-aping logo. The Online Ceramics-rip t-shirt has become the neo-tribal tattoo flash t-shirt. The music ping-pongs from earnest to Deez Nuts constantly.* There are now Matt Reason-style guys in New York Effing City.
This week, there was an urban-studies-ass effort from Ian Browning for Quartersnacks. It answers questions I had to attend to constantly throughout my thesis process. Maybe I’ll send it to my old advisor.
New York City. Home of the best celebrity news, Page Fucking Six. Which I read at work because pcgamer.com and hardcoregaming.com are blocked by the filter. There, I learned:
Jason “Jordan 4” Sudeikis is gonna lose his kids. Olivia Wilde will never get the clout she deserves as one of the great jawline actors because Booksmart sucked so bad. Actors shouldn’t direct - it’s too hard for them.
Armie Hammer made the mistake of thinking washed jeans type girls would be down for kink shit raped a bunch of girls. I’m reading some of the stuff he said and it’s pretty chill, fetishwise. Public use? Come on, that’s like level 1. Kidding. Brodie should’ve gone to a Portland coffee shop or something. Joke. Anyway, the whole thing fixates on the text of what he’s saying instead of focusing on his engaging in nonconsensual sexual conversations with these people, forcing them into things they didn’t wanna do, abusing his power and y’know, RAPING them. But 5 years in on MeToo, who the fuck is gonna watch that doc? Another gifted actor is cruel and abusive, nice. Oh, he’s into some freaky shit? Let’s go, clicks baby.
Related to that, Shia got back with Mia Goth and Jack “possibly the worst influence on American popular music in the last 400 years” Antonoff and Margaret Qualley from Devil May Cry Death Stranding are engaged. That Page Six article splendidly rubs in his not-marrying Lena:
Antonoff previously dated Lena Dunham from 2012 to 2018. Before he and the “Girls” alum, 36, called it quits, Dunham joked about how “nice” it felt to have “no rock” on her finger after five years of dating.
“I thought jack was furtively planning a proposal to me with his sister and he just admitted I actually caught him ‘talking s–t’ about me!” Dunham tweeted in November 2017. “Now I literally can’t sleep cuz I’m laughing too hard and I am also keeping him awake.”
Damn, that’s a fucking vibe, huh.
RIP Anne Heche. Walking and Talking changed my life.
*often argue with this guy on slapmagazine.com. often argue with most of the french guys on there, actually.
